Andretti Autosport and Ed Carpenter Racing Host NTT INDYCAR SERIES Private Test at Iowa Speedway Prior to Hy-Vee Indycar Race Weekend

The roar of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES engines once again echoed through Iowa Speedway on Thursday, July 7 as Andretti Autosport and Ed Carpenter Racing hosted a private test to prepare for the only doubleheader on the 2022 series schedule during Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend, July 22-24.

Despite the threat of rain looming over the Fastest Short Track on the Planet throughout the day, seven cars from the two teams were able to log hundreds of laps over the eight hours of the test and the session was never actually stopped due to weather. The drivers in attendance for Thursday’s test included Conor Daly, Rinus VeeKay and Ed Carpenter from Ed Carpenter Racing and Colton Herta, Romain Grosjean, Alexander Rossi and Devlin DeFrancesco from Andretti Autosport.

“We got to do a ton of laps today which was nice,” said Daly, who posted one of the top times during Thursday’s test in the No. 20 BitNile Chevrolet. “We thought it was going to rain all day which meant we finished quite early. The car was really strong all day long. We made several different changes and we started fast and finished fast which is always comforting. Even though there were only seven cars it was nice to finish the day towards the top.”

The stars and cars of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES return to Iowa Speedway for the Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend with practice on Friday, July 22 before qualifying on Saturday, July 23. The rising stars of Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires will also be in action during the weekend with practice on Friday before qualifying and racing on Saturday.

The first NTT INDYCAR SERIES race of the weekend will also take the green flag on Saturday afternoon with the Hy-VeeDeals.com 250 presented by DoorDash. On Sunday, the second NTT INDYCAR SERIES race of the weekend will take place with the Hy-Vee Salute to Farmers 300 presented by Google.

“I can’t wait for the races – it’s going to be crazy as usual here at Iowa,” added Daly, who won his first career INDYCAR pole position at Iowa Speedway during the 2020 doubleheader race weekend as he led qualifying for Race 1 while competing for Carlin Racing. “I’m very, very happy with the car driving for the first time with (Ed Carpenter Racing) at Iowa.”

In addition to a great on-track lineup, Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend will also feature an amazing music lineup with Tim McGraw performing live before Saturday’s INDYCAR race and Florida Georgia Line in concert after the race. Gwen Stefani will perform prior to Sunday’s INDYCAR race and Blake Shelton will host a concert on Sunday following the race.  All concerts are included with a valid race ticket.  Fans can enjoy games, activities, displays and more throughout the weekend, including the Food Truck Challenge with 50 food trucks on site competing for cash prizes.
