INDYCAR Drives Streets of Downtown Des Moines

For the first time ever, NTT INDYCAR SERIES race cars drove the streets of Downtown Des Moines Tuesday to generate excitement and provide a preview to Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend, July 22-24, at Iowa Speedway. INDYCAR drivers Josef Newgarden and Jack Harvey drove their team’s race cars down Grand Avenue in Downtown Des Moines from the State Capital at East 13th Street to Robert D. Ray Drive and back during a lunchtime celebration on Tuesday.

The INDYCAR Drive Downtown featured food trucks, radio stations on remote and multiple opportunities for fans in Des Moines to engage with Newgarden – driver of the No. 2 PPG Chevrolet for Team Penske – and Harvey – driver of the No. 45 Hy-Vee Honda for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. The unique display provided an opportunity for fans to meet two of INDYCAR’s brightest stars and offered an up-close look throughout the downtown corridor of the amazing cars that will be competing at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa next month during the only doubleheader weekend on the2022 NTT INDYCAR SERIES schedule Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend.

“This was a really cool opportunity to bring INDYCAR to the fans in Des Moines,” said Harvey. “It’s pretty unique to see our race cars driving on the Downtown streets and it was awesome to see so many people out to get a preview of next month’s Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend.”

The July 22-24 event will feature two full NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship points-paying races – the Hy-VeeDeals.com 250 presented by DoorDash on Saturday, July 23 and the Hy-Vee Salute to Farmers 300 presented by Google on Sunday, July 24 – along with the rising stars of open wheel racing in the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires competing on Saturday. An incredible concert lineup is included with each race ticket, featuring Tim McGraw performing live before Saturday’s INDYCAR race and Florida Georgia Line in concert after the race, along with Gwen Stefani on stage prior to Sunday’s INDYCAR race and a post-race concert with Blake Shelton on Sunday. Fans at Iowa Speedway will also be able to enjoy plenty of games, activities, displays and more, including the Food Truck Challenge with 50 food trucks on site competing for a cash prize with the winner determined by a fan vote during the weekend.
