Food Truck Challenge to Add Flavor, Variety During Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend

Adding a little flavor and a lot of variety to an already exciting three days on and off the track, INDYCAR today announced a unique Food Truck Challenge that is sure to spice up Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend July 22-24 at Iowa Speedway.

The three-day weekend festival that will feature incredible racing action and a world-class music lineup will also welcome a huge collection of food trucks that will compete for cash prizes, with the fans in attendance at Iowa Speedway determining the top three trucks in the weekend challenge.

Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend is looking for 50 trucks to participate in the Food Truck Challenge at Iowa Speedway, and 30 challengers have already committed to participating on race weekend. Entries will include many popular Iowa-based food trucks, and mobile culinary stations from across the U.S. are welcome to participate in the Challenge. Trucks from as far away as Illinois and Oklahoma have already signed up to be part of the Challenge. With 50 trucks serving a diverse variety of food in the Food Truck Village at Iowa Speedway, the Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend is expected to include the largest collection of food trucks ever featured at a race event in the U.S.

“We are so excited to host this unique Food Truck Challenge during Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend,” said Anne Fischgrund, General Manager of Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend. “This will be a fun competition between some of the top food trucks in the state of Iowa and beyond, and the real winners will be our fans. With all that great food to go along with high-speed racing and incredible live music, what an amazing weekend experience for everyone at Iowa Speedway.”

Fans will be encouraged to sample as many of the Food Truck Challengers as possible, Friday-Sunday during the race weekend and cast their vote for the top trucks via online voting through a QR code. The top three prize winners will be announced that Sunday afternoon.

In addition to premier racing action featuring an NTT INDYCAR SERIES doubleheader – the Hy-VeeDeals.com 250 presented by DoorDash on Saturday, July 23 and the Hy-Vee Salute to Farmers 300 presented by Google on Sunday, July 24 – along with the rising stars of racing competing in Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires, Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend will include a festival-like atmosphere with three days of music, food and family-focused entertainment. Highlights during the weekend will include:

  • Concerts featuring some of the biggest names in music – Tim McGraw (pre-race) and Florida Georgia Line (post-race) on Saturday and Gwen Stefani (pre-race) and Blake Shelton (post-race) on Sunday
  • Games and interactive displays all weekend long
  • Youth-focused entertainment and activities on Saturday
  • Special activities to honor the nation’s farmers on Sunday
  • Food Truck Challenge featuring 50 food trucks on site throughout the weekend
  • More fan options and activities to be announced soon

Access to all concerts and fan activity and display areas – including the Food Truck Village – is included with each valid race weekend ticket. Food may be purchased separately.

Fans are encouraged to purchase Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend tickets quickly as limited seating options are available and prices will increase on Monday, May 2.
