Getting Started

Hy-Vee and INDYCAR take pride in ensuring the safety and security of its guests. Please review the gate rules and regulations below prior to arriving to Iowa Speedway and the Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend.

These regulations are subject to updates at any time without notice. Additional restrictions may be imposed by INDYCAR at INDYCAR's sole discretion. These gate regulations also apply to parking and camping areas inside the Iowa Speedway gates. 

Re-entry Policy

Individuals may leave and re-enter the gates throughout each day and their valid tickets for that day's activities. To be eligible to re-enter, the guest’s ticket must be shown, and must be stamped upon departure so that they may re-enter through the Iowa Speedway ticket gates. Ticket and Stamp must be shown for re-entry.

Prohibited Items

The following items are prohibited through Iowa Speedway gates:

  • No outside food of any kind is permitted.
  • Foam or hard-sided coolers regardless of size.
  • Weapons of any type, including knives, firearms and ammunition.
  • Displays of the confederate flag.
  • Fireworks and flares.
  • Glass or ceramic containers of any kind.
  • Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages aside from unopened water bottles containing only water.
  • Dry ice.
  • Animals (except service animals providing assistance to an individual with a disability).
  • Lasers of any kind.
  • Noise makers and air horns.
  • Aerosol cans (except sunscreen, sun block, hand sanitizer, and bug spray).
  • Selfie sticks.
  • Tripods and monopods that are either solid or collapsible.
  • Illegal substances of any kind (illegal drugs and substances or drug paraphernalia).
  • Seat cushions with metal components.
  • Collapsible chairs.
  • Unmanned aerial vehicles, commonly known as drones and also referred to as remotely piloted aircrafts, and similar remote-controlled devices.
  • Frisbees, balloons, beach balls or any other projectile.
  • Roller blades, skateboards, skates, hover boards, pogo sticks, and scooters.
  • Offensive or obscene materials (e.g. flags, signs or clothing).
  • Soliciting of any kind.
  • Smoking, including the use of electronic cigarettes, vaporizers or similar products is not permitted in the grandstands. Guests wishing to smoke may do so only in designated areas.
  • Any other items not mentioned that may pose a safety hazard or diminish the enjoyment of the event by other guests may be refused at the discretion of security and management.

This list of prohibited items is subject to change without notice. There are no provisions for checking and holding prohibited items. Prohibited items may not be left at or around the gates. Items left unattended will be removed and discarded.

Permitted Items

The following items are permitted through Iowa Speedway gates:

  • A maximum of two bags per person, including but not limited to, backpacks, diaper bags, clutch bags and fanny packs, as long as they do not exceed a maximum size of 18”x18”x14”.
  • One soft-sided cooler no larger than 14”x14”x14” per guest.
  • Unopened water bottles containing only water.
  • Sunscreen, sunblock, hand sanitizer and bug spray (aerosol, gel or liquid forms).
  • Insulated, empty cups –maximum size of 64 oz. This includes stainless steel and similar reusable water bottles that do not exceed the maxiumum 64 oz. size.
  • Personal, non-commercial photo and video cameras. Video cameras and audio recording equipment are not allowed within concert area.
  • Binoculars, scanners and headsets.
  • CamelBak(s).
  • iPads, tablets, and laptop computers.
  • Seat cushions without metal components.
  • Cigarettes and lighters.
  • Service animals (providing assistance to an individual with a disability).
  • Nationality flags attached to a pencil-sized wooden stick. Flags may not obstruct any other fan’s view of event. Flags are not allowed within concert area.
  • Mobility aid devices used by guests with disabilities. Guests are responsible for securing unattended mobility aid devices such as wheelchairs and scooters. INDYCAR reserves the right to prohibit any device based on size or other considerations.

Note: Small strollers and canvas wagons are allowed inside Iowa Speedway, but they may be subject to additional security checks. It is recommended that any strollers/wagons brought inside the venue be collapsible. Strollers/wagons are NOT allowed in the Iowa Speedway grandstands.

Smoking Policy

Smoking, including the use of electronic cigarettes, vaporizers or similar products will not be permitted in the Iowa Speedway grandstands. Fans wishing to smoke may do so twenty feet away from buildings and seating entrances, and only allowed in designated areas per the Iowa Smoke Free Air Act.

Alcohol Policy

Alcohol will be served at designated locations during the Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend. For those guests that do consume alcohol, please do so responsibly and be considerate of your fellow fans. Guests must be 21 years old and present a valid photo ID with proof of age when purchasing alcohol at Iowa Speedway. The event reserves the right to refuse to serve alcohol to any person, for any reason, and will contact police if a guest is acting in a manner that is contrary to the law or that may endanger themselves, others, or any property. Iowa Code States Licenses may not allow patrons to bring liquor onto the licensed premises.
